The Law Enforcement Basic Handgun/Carbine-Rifle Instructor course is 50-hours in length and is designed to teach Instructor Candidates the proper methods of instructing students in Law Enforcement applications of handgun and carbine rifle employment. This course also discusses legal issues, use of force or department policies. This course is designed to greatly increase the candidates' shooting and teaching ability.

- Proper stance
- Grip
- Sight alignment
- Sight picture
- Safety concerns
- Multiple types of reloads
- Shooting positions
- One arm shooting
- One arm reloads
- Use of cover
- Multiple types of malfunctions
- Movement shooting
- Rapid deployment
- Tactics
- Ballistics
- Weapons maintenance
- And much more.
The candidates will correct problems of students that will be provided for a "real" training setting. Included in the course will be instruction on how to teach a low light/night fire course.
Subjects Covered:
Firearms safety as it pertains to Law Enforcement applications and employment including:
- The basics of:
- Firing
- Stance
- Grip
- Sight alignment
- Trigger press
- Speed reloading
- Tactical reloading and stoppage drills
- Rapid multiple shots on single targets
- Rapid engagement of multiple targets
- Engagement of targets from the ready position.
- The draw from duty equipment
- The concealed draw
- The proper tactical response to single or multiple opponent situations.
- Contact distance employment of the handgun
- Moving to the rear and laterally while drawing and shooting
- Rapid assumption of various shooting positions such as kneeling and prone which will allow the shooter to gain more accuracy and protect themselves from being injured, use of cover, and pivots and turns.
- A low light session will be included.
Lectures cover:
- Handgun & Carbine Rifle types and modifications,
- Ballistics and ammunition selection as it pertains to the handgun,
- Holster selection, and
- Accessories.

EQUIPMENT:
- Duty Handgun
- Duty Belt, (If you use one Tactical Duty Belt you may use it also, but bring both)
- Concealment/Off Duty Holster with Concealment Garment
- 3 magazines or speed loaders for Duty Handgun
- 1300 rounds of Handgun Ammunition
- Duty Carbine Rifle with sling and 3 magazines
- 1200rds Rifle Ammunition
- Police flashlight
- Hat
- Note taking material
- Body Armor (Concealable or Tactical is fine)
- Eye & ear protection
- Elbow & knee pads (optional)
- Rain Gear
- Gun Cleaning Equipment (You will be cleaning guns)
At the end of this course, the Instructor Candidates will be able to effectively present material to shooters and will be able to coach the individual shooter to a higher standard. Instructors will be able to identify errors not seen before and will be able to correct those errors quickly and effectively. Techniques will be explained in a depth not experienced before and all techniques will be linked into a coherent system of firearms usage.
